A man walks by the St. Regis Hotel and Bar in Historic Downtown Calgary, Alberta. When the St. Regis Hotel opened in 1913, it was known as the Grunwald Hotel. A first class European-style hotel, it was built to accommodate the better heeled of the westward-bound masses. In 1917 the name was changed in a likely response to the anti-German sentiment of the time. Its cliental is now more attuned to the poor and homeless. June 10, 2006.
